healthy

If so, what is your definition of sexual health?

The World Health Organisation defines Sexual health as the state of physical, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality. It requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences free of coercion, discrimination and violence.

The pointers to being sexually healthy include the following:

  • Having a positive attitude to sexual relationships

What is your attitude to sexual relationships?

Is a sexual relationship something to look forward to out of free will or a burden that cannot be escaped due to societal pressures, expectations and or judgments?

  • Good and consistent communication with one’s partner.

In your sexual relationship, is your communication with your partner leveled, consistent and productive?

  • Good protection of oneself and one’s partner.

Are you able to avoid unwanted pregnancies in your relationships and to protect yourself and your partner from sexually transmitted diseases and stress from the same?

  • The ability to avoid external stimulators in your sexual life.

You should be able to be sexually active or responsive without the help of stimulators like drugs, alcohol or must you enlist the assistance of these substances as motivators to respond appropriately as a partner in a sexual relationship?
